Little Miss Independent

Her new favorite phase is "I try, I try". She wants to do everything by herself and I mean everything. Getting dressed, doing her hair, putting on shoes, getting the cereal, getting in the car. These said things are fine by me, in fact I encourage her to do them solo. These... pouring milk, opening the oven, cutting up her strawberries, driving the car ... not so much. We have been having a lot of tantrums in these parts. I do it and she cries. She tries but can't do it by herself and she cries. She relents and asks for help and she cries. I try my best to be patient and help her through her frustration but come the evening I am so happy Nick is home to take one for the team, he can deal with it. Unfortunately, the only thing she has no interest in doing herself is peeing on the potty. Why?

This stool is her access to the world. It is so funny to see her haul it up and down our many flights of stairs. Here she brought it down stairs to get to her candy and stickers from Easter. She was very proud of herself.

You can see the spots of makeup on her forehead from using the stool to get on the bathroom counter. Oh bother

  1. Oh my. Sometimes I wish you and I lived closer so our kids could hang out....but then I imagine what Teryn and Scarlett would be like together and our houses would probably be burned down. I especially know the never-ending crying fits when they can't do something by themselves. Teryn hasn't showed a whole lot of desire to do everything by himself, but holy moly! When he decides he wants to and can't, that's the end of the world. Oh well. Like you said, hopefully the good things we do will outweigh the discipline and short tempers we have. Some days it's all I can do to make it until bedtime!

Oh, and Teryn has a stool he carries around too but he hasn't tried to bring it up the stairs yet. I bet that's pretty hilarious to watch!
